Unsigned artists battle it out to win demo album with Castle Milk Stout
Six unsigned artists from around South Africa have been named as finalists in this year’s Castle Milk Stout Unplugged talent search competition.
Asanda Nqiki and Sizwe Yaze from Port Elizabeth, Amohelang Mohlotsane and Tumelo Moloto from Johannesburg, Dineo Mwaturo from Pretoria West, Afikile Dlakavu from East London and Phumla Sibanyoni from Daveyton will be mentored by musical group The Muffinz, who launched onto the South African scene in 2012 with their critically acclaimed album Have You Heard?
“Castle Milk Stout has long been a supporter of unplugged music, and we are really excited with the amount of talent that has come forward in this, the second year of the Unplugged competition,” said Castle Milk Stout general manager, Julian Remba. “For a young, unsigned artist to get the opportunity to perform alongside some of the country’s most established artists is a fantastic mentorship opportunity,” Remba said. The finalists will each perform a cover track with The Muffinz.
Last year, Pretoria vocalist Itu Tshabane beat almost 2 000 other entrants to claim the title, and this year, the battle for glory has been even more fierce, with more than 2 500 entries.
In November the finalists will compete at three exclusive concerts on the Castle Milk Stout Unplugged tour in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban alongside The Muffinz and DJ Kenzhero, seeking to be named as the best talent in the genre of soul and RnB. The winning artist wins R20 000 in cash plus a contract with Universal Music where their best track will be recorded, polished and promoted for six months.
Videos of the finalists performing live at the Castle Milk Stout Unplugged tour will be available on the Castle Milk Stout Facebook page for fans to view and vote for their favourite artists.
The invite-only Castle Milk Stout Unplugged Tour happens:
