SA music stars Zakes Bantwini and AKA will once again hit the soccer pitch in the name of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Last year saw Bantwini challenge AKA to select a celebrity soccer team and go head to head against him for Bantwini’s initiative called 1Goal4Cancer. Team AKA walked away victorious, resulting in AKA shaving off Bantwini’s hair. This year, Bantwini has a score to settle! The star-studded soccer match, which is being organised by ECHO Events (www.ec-ho.co.za), is due to take place at Discovery Soccer Park on 2 November, due to a busy overseas travel schedule in October for both Bantwini and AKA. The teams will be looking super stylish on the pitch this year, as Team Zakes’ kit will be sponsored by adidas while Team AKA’s kit will be sponsored by Nike.“For years, the adidas group has been actively supporting cancer research through initiatives such as the All fight line, the Unstoppable lines and the AKTIV line with Greta Weitz. As a company entrenched in its support of active and healthy lifestyles, we believe that raising awareness for cancer encourages early detection thus saving lives. For this reason we are proud to support this initiative and to contribute in some way to this vital cause,” commented Brad Stern, Director of Brand Activation, adidas South Africa. The 1Goal4Cancer Floating Trophy will be sponsored by MASCULIN this year.Team Zakes includes Doctor Khumalo, Donald, Slikour, Good Hope FM’s DJ Lloyd, Moneoa and Pearl Thusi. Meanwhile, Team AKA includes Lennox Bacela from Tuks FC, Darren and Ryan known as Twins on Decks, DJ Fanatic, DJ Franky, Kwesta, Nandi Mngoma, Kid X, Ma-E, Siya Mdluli aka Cashtime Siya and club owner, promoter and director, Allesio.Bantwini lost his mother to cancer in 2007 and has been outspoken about the importance of raising awareness and encouraging people to get the necessary medical checks ever since. Nominations and pledges to donate towards the initiative are being driven via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using #1goal4cancer with proceeds going to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). Any donations can be made direct to CANSA: ABSA Account Number: 1126560482 and bank code: 632005 using the reference 1Goal4Cancer.“This is a cause so close to my heart and I’m grateful that AKA and all our players are joining me in this important awareness campaign. Also a special shout out to Nike and adidas for getting behind the teams. Early detection of breast cancer means giving someone a chance to survive this terrible disease. Let’s do this in the name of 1Goal4Cancer,” says Bantwini.
